Vital equipment for nitric acid production plants
Nitric acid is the basic material for the production of fertilizers, explosives and chemicals. It is made from ammonia. Due to the growing world population and the rising wealth in the Newly Industrialized Countries, there is an increasing demand for nitric acid.
Turbomachinery trains of dual pressure nitric acid plants consist of:
- an axial air compressor
- a radial NOx compressor
- a tail gas expander and
- a steam turbine
MAN Diesel & Turbo steam turbines allow extractions for process purposes. A motor / generator can be integrated into the train, if needed.
The turbomachines are at the heart of these nitric acid plants and are a major factor on plant profitability. MAN Diesel & Turbo is the leading and largest supplier of machine trains for the nitric acid dual pressure process and has delivered about 500 turbomachines for approximately 180 nitric acid plants worldwide. Recent focus on environmental requirements add further need for dual pressure machine trains which may be supplied for plant capacities up to 2200 t/d. MAN Diesel & Turbo can offer such machine trains in single shaft or integrally geared type design.
