Compressor train technology for the plastics industry

The growing demand for plastics is driven by a rising population as well as increasing prosperity in developing countries. Cracker plants convert naphtha or gas to ethylene and propylene and subsequently to the relevant polymers. Fifty per cent of all plastics are produced based on this process.

Turbomachinery trains typically consist of a cracked gas compressor, an ethylene refrigerant compressor and a propylene refrigerant compressor. Compressors are the heart of these plants and as such exert a significant influence on plant profitability. 

MAN Diesel & Turbo is an experienced supplier of centrifugal compressor trains including our own steam turbines and has gained references for this application worldwide with different licensors.
